50th Anniversary Artist Feature - Jordan R.

"When I was [at MD Anderson], the programs helped me so much that I want to be able to help other
kids going through my situation and be a positive light to them and their families."

Hoppy April! Spring is in full bloom and full of celebration. Our new Spring/Summer collection features products inspired by artwork from Jordan, age 29. Jordan was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on her right knee when she was 11 years old. As one of the first patients to receive an expandable prosthesis, she underwent a pioneering treatment that required periodic measurement checks to ensure a proper fit. About six years ago, Jordan received a new prosthesis to better accommodate her growth.

During her treatment, Jordan faced significant challenges. However, she found solace in programs such as Sunshine Kids and the Children's Art Project. Both programs offered her a sense of normalcy and a pleasant distraction from her hospital environment. She also enjoyed unique opportunities to meet celebrities, including Kendra Scott, Ben Affleck and Craig Biggio. One of her cherished memories was a Valentine's Day celebration organized by the Children's Art Project, where she decorated cookies with an art teacher. Her creativity shone through her designs, and several of her creations were used to create products. Since her time as a patient at MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Center, Jordan has developed a love for art and finds painting to be a therapeutic outlet.

Now 18 years cancer-free, Jordan works in human resources for a custom homebuilder in Houston. She enjoys painting on canvas in her free time while overlooking the beautiful scenery outside her home near Minute Maid Park. In college, she interned with the Children's Art Project and has a strong desire to give back to others, hoping to one day work at MD Anderson. Jordan is committed to supporting children with cancer and being a positive influence for kids and their families. “When I was there, the programs helped me so much that I want to be able to help other kids going through a similar situation and be a positive light to them and their families,” Jordan said. Despite her titanium knee limiting her from participating in high-impact sports, Jordan has still managed to pursue many thrilling adventures, including hiking in Lake Tahoe, swimming with sharks in Hawaii, and climbing Diamond Head Mountain in Honolulu. Additionally, she has traveled extensively throughout Germany and Italy. Jordan is a proud graduate of the University of Alabama where she attended various sporting events and games. Her positive outlook and adventurous spirit will continue to guide her in the future.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Children's Art Project. Each month, we’ll provide updates, promote survivorship, and share uplifting stories about what makes Children’s Art Project special.
